For all of you who think that my blogs are too long and too academic, this morning's blog will come as a relief. That is, if anyone is still reading my blogs! Today, I am sharing a very simple lesson I discovered somewhere and it was so powerful that I wanted to share it. There is a short video which outlines a very simple message.
Here is the link to the video.
An eagle would be no match for a snake while the snake is on the ground. However, the eagle has learned how to kill a snake. It quickly snatches the snake from the earth and takes it into the air where the snake is powerless. The snake belongs to the earth but remove it from its habitat and it struggles to defend itself. The eagle on the other hand is very much at home in the skies. That is where it belongs.
What a powerful lesson for Christians who are engaged in a war with the devil. Satan approached Eve as a serpent crawling across the garden of Eden. She engaged with him in his own territory. If only she had relied on the LORD as there was a close communication between heaven and earth. Instead, she chose to take Satan on in his domain.
Some verses from Paul's letter to Colossians come to mind.
[1] If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. [3] For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
[Colossians 3:1-4 ESV]
We wonder why we are not living victorious Christian lives. We wonder why we are allowing Satan to have the victory in our lives. We wonder why sin has still a grip on us. Here is the answer - we belong to the world above and he is defeated there by Christ's death on the cross. We need to make sure that we have set our minds on things above - not on things that are on the earth.
