Lily (age 10) tells her story of her faith journey

Lily Bremner is the latest person to have been baptised at Dawson Community Church in Falkirk. She is the daughter of Dave and Cheryll Bremner. She has two brothers - an older brother named Jesse and a younger brother named Seth. Before she was baptised publicly by immersion, she stood up and read out this statement. I was impressed with the sincerity and simplicity of her testimony which I thought was worth sharing with you.

Before Lily was baptised, her dad based his talk on this passage from Matthew 19. He also showed a video which acted out this incident.

[13] Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, [14] but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” [15] And he laid his hands on them and went away. [Matthew 19:13-15 ESV]

 Here is Lily's script.

Hi, my name is Lily May Bremner, I am 10 years old, I live in Maddiston and I would like to thank you all for coming to my baptism today.

I would like to tell you why I have decided to get baptised and why I have decided to give my life to Jesus.

I have went to church for as long as I can remember and I have always enjoyed listening to the bible and learning from the stories.

I have made lots of friends going to church, going to Sunday school and the Ark and really enjoy going to camps where we have lots of fun and learn lot’s about Jesus.

When I was 9 years old I decided to give my life to Jesus.  We were driving in the car and I saw God’s creation and decided that this was a sign of God’s love for me.  I had heard lots about how Jesus had loved me so much that he died for me and that if I put my trust in him, I would be saved and have everlasting life.

I have always liked telling people about Jesus and try to do this at school.  I have wanted to get baptised for a long time so that I can show everyone how much Jesus means to me and that I want to follow him for the rest of my life.

After Summer Camp I was speaking to my grandad and asked him what I needed to do to be baptised.  He said “if you believe in Jesus with all of your heart that is all you need to be baptised”.

I love Jesus because he has done so much for me.  I want to share him with everyone in my life and I am very happy that I can show you today how much I love him.

Thank you for listening.
