David keeps in touch with the Lord - David and the Psalms Lesson 18 Monday 3rd March 2025

We are continuing our weekly look at the subject of the Life of David, the king of Israel. Today we are looking at 1 Samuel Chapter 23 where there is a strong contrast between David and Saul. Saul is out of touch with God and he is living his life without direction. He is bent on destroying David whom he perceives to be his enemy. He imagines that God is on his side even though he has just ordered the killing of God's priests in the town of Nob. He ignores the reality that God has decided that he can be no longer king of Israel and that God has chosen a neighbour who is better than him to be king. He is a sad figure - obsessed with jealousy of this upstart and paranoic about conspiracies against him.

David, on the other hand, is not without his weakness but he is a man after God's heart and in this chapter he is keeping in touch with the Lord and seeking God's will in every step of his pathway.

I have provided some material to help you to study this chapter for yourself. Firstly, there is a video of David Suchet reading the chapter. Secondly, there is a study guide with the chapter broken down into sections with questions for each section. These are not meant as a test of your knowledge - they are meant to provoke thought and discussion. There is also a presentation which provides some useful observations on some key aspects of the chapter. This has buttons which you can click to navigate yourself round the presentation.

Here they are

  1. The video of David Suchet

  1. The study guide

  1. The presentation as a PDF file (originally a PowerPoint)

You should be able to download the Study Guide and the Presentation.

If you want to discuss any aspect of this material, please contact me by email at dayshare153@gmail.com

There are also a number of blogs on the life of David

I am still planning to share more studies such as this one from previous sessions of our study group at Dawson Community Church, Falkirk. I also hope to add a new study each week - probably on Mondays.
