Do you remember singing choruses in Sunday school? I remember a number of choruses we used to sing in the Sunday School at Bethany Hall, Stevenston. Here are some I can remember:
Running over, running over, my cup's full and running over.
Away far beyond Jordan.
Only a boy called David.
Deep and wide.
I have some old slides which used to be used in the Dawson Mission and they tell a story of large numbers of children singing together these old gospel hymns.
These are some of the slides for Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
Here is another old hymn called "There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus." Sadly, the tune was borrowed by supporters of Glasgow Rangers, a big football team in Glasgow. That shows it was a good tune. Pity they did not keep the original words
Here is a video of this hymn being sung - sadly it is not from the old Dawson Mission in Falkirk
And to end today's blog, I have learned from a good authority that the young boy singer in this video went on to become Charlie in Casualty. His name is Derek Thomson
