Today we are looking at 1 Samuel Chapter 23 where there is a strong contrast between David and Saul. Saul is out of touch with Godi

I want to continue with our studies in the life of David which I have been sharing over the past few months - from First Samuel & the Psalms

These are the social outcasts who take sides with David, the traitor and enemy of the King. Those who had nothing to lose.

David turned to the Lord for help and acknowledging his sinful state. He then experienced the blessing of divine deliverance and protection.

Now David has lost his faith in God. He can only see an uncertain future and he is afraid of Saul though God has delivered him repeatedly.

How do we deal with characters such  as Doeg without it affecting our spiritual life? I want to spend today's Day Share looking at Psalm 52

He is also involved in a spiritual journey and it is downward. He is running headlong down a very steep hill - in a spiritual sense.

David was safe at Naioth in Ramah because he was where the Holy Spirit was active and was protecting him from evil. He did not need to flee

In this chapter we read of a strange story where Saul was so jealous of David and determined to assassinate him even at a sacred place.

David needs good advice and support. He is in a desperate situation. He has fled from Saul and has sought out the old prophet Samuel.

Saul was unable to control his anger. His jealousy was ruining him. The Holy Spirit provides the power to allow us to exercise self-control.

Jonathan is prepared to risk Saul's anger by speaking to his father on David's behalf. He is shocked at his father's unjust conduct.

Philistines were uncircumcised and would not willingly agree to this. So he would need to kill an appropriate number of Philistine males.

We can see that God was in control of the complex variety of circumstances in David's early life. God is all-powerful and all-knowing.

If we have any doubts about the deadly effects of jealousy, they will be removed as we read the story of Saul's conduct against David.
